I don't know that violence in women's sports is "increasing." To answer that, we must first decide what is par. Perhaps violent incidents are more frequent for no reason other than women are playing more (in all senses of that word) sports. Perhaps violence in sports (men's and women's) is increasing because it's such an everyday thing now in all our entertainments (movies, tv, video games, etc.). Not so easy to parse all this, is it?

Again, though, what Griner did was wrong--nor was it a trivial thing, not when it is someone of her size and strength throwing a punch; things could have ended much worse--and must be dealt with appropriately: but not in any special way simply because she is a female athlete.

I think its fantastic that Jana had them removed, although she felt uncomfatble in her body before hand, she shows that enhancements and changing your body to fit in doesnt always make you happy.

Although there has being a lot said about this punch, and no-more should really be said about the incident once it has been dealt with. Do you not think there has been an increase in violence in womens sport? Looking at Elizabeth Lambert dubbed the new 'Vinnie Jones' for her level of violence at a soccor game earlyer in the year, I think this needs to be addressed and if it means that people are talking about indicdents like this for weeks after than why not, it shows that it can not keep happening.

Nothing has proven through repetitive appearance to be more "natural" than human warfare (regardless of gender). This is not to say that it is a thing to be glorified or made a goal. However, if any soldier is to be applauded, these women should certainly be included in the list.

That women fighting men seems unnatural to you is perhaps understandable, since it is uncommon in your experience. Still, it is inherently no more horrible than is men fighting men or women fighting women.

And if you are saying these women did not play by the rules simply because they fought, because they were brave warriors, you could not be more wrong.

You know, men and men killing each other is horrible, women and women doing awful things to each other, even killing them in rage, is horrible. Men and women killing each other, or inflicting grievous violence on each other is not natural, it is a good thing those women were subjugated by the French, I feel sorry for the French soldiers who hesitated and died becuase they had the correct scruples, and would not harm women who could be their lovers, mothers, or sisters. I applaud those who pulled the trigger in time for realizing that their enemy did not play by the rules.

Avatar is soooooo on my list. I'm thrilled by the female cast of characters, particularly "Lt. Ripley" Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez.

I'm afraid the Earhart movie will be disappointing -- the trailers don't inspire me. But perhaps I'll be wrong. Let's hope so; this is certainly a story I'd love to see told on the big screen.

I was STOKED watching Roxanne's fight vid. She's my fave for the win on Saturday. Although I'll go ahead and say that I think she might not be able to beat Cyborg, if that's the matchup we get.

I read she was a competitive athlete in school and did very well in sprint freestyle swimming.

If she's raising a family this lifestyle may not offer what she is looking for right now.

Maybe she'll come back when she's older and a little bored. It would be fun to see those old bones again.

I noticed this most recently in the horrible comments left by guys in various forums where the story about DeEtta Peterson, the 49 year old woman from WA who is trying to make her debut in the MMA cage this year, was published. (I published a short BP on her: http://www.theglowingedge.com/grandma-wants-a-fight/)

I was astonished at the level of hatred and sexualization, and honestly can't figure it out.

Would love to hear more people's thoughts on the subject.

Just heard that Toughill is out due to an undisclosed medical situation. Very disappointing indeed, as this is now definitely out of the hopefully televised category. Aargh.
